Sport Stories from My Couch

For any South African home, Rugby is something sacred. Since you were a kid, you’ve probably heard adults having heated conversations about Springbok victories and eating the traditional biltong while watching. If I were to describe a perfect Saturday, I would tell you about laying on a couch with crumbs scattered all over it, a glass of my favorite beverage not far away, and someone talking passionately about rugby nearby. Not so long ago, though, I decided to upgrade my rugby routine by betting on matches in hopes that my theories hold true.

YesPlay has slowly become part of my weekend rituals ever since I gave it a go. Sure, watching the matches can be exciting, but there is something else about putting down a bet before the game and seeing your favorite team succeed. With YesPlay rugby betting is so simple you’d wonder why you haven’t thought of it yourself. All major tournaments from the United Rugby Championship to the Rugby World Cup are listed on https://yesplay.bet/sports/prematch/rugby, so finding what you’re looking for won’t take much time.

Betting Markets

At first, I was scared by all the betting terms like “handicap”, but once you get to understand how it works, you see that it is quite easy. For example, if you were betting on a match between Springboks and Argentina and you knew that the Springboks were in good shape. Let’s say you had a handicap of South Africa (-12.5) at odds of 1.85. You bet on the Boks, and if they by at least 13 points, you would make an easy profit.

I tend to always choose the more simple match-winner bets. It can be really fun if you were betting on a closely matched Six Nations game such as Ireland against France since the odds would be around 2.00 for either side.

Boxing’s Quiet Knockouts

I’m not a big sports guy, but on the weekends I like to watch rugby. Sometimes, when I’m free I also give boxing matches a go, and watch some international fights if I have the time. While I was scrolling through YesPlay one day, I found one game that was going to happen in a few weeks and I thought, why not bet some money? Click here to check out their boxing betting page.

With YesPlay you have three main options, pick a fighter to win, decide how they are going to do it, or call it the round the fight’s going to end. Last month, for example I took a risk and put some money on a random guy that almost nobody knew to win at x3.50 odds. He knocked his opponent out cold in less than two rounds, which made me so excited I had to try really hard to not wake up my neighbours, who were trying to get some sleep.

Finding Smart Bets

No matter what I am betting on, be it rugby or boxing, I always keep my cool. For example, if you manage to predict total points (over/under) in a rugby game, it is still a win, don’t disregard those. Predicting a low-scoring game in a rainy match in Glasgow proved to be a pretty smart idea. By looking at weather conditions and some minor details, you’ll always stay one step ahead.
